Snake
Snake
Eat the apples, grow and speed up, and don't bite your own tail.
Arcade · 1 player
How to play
The snake never stops moving; you only choose its direction. Every apple makes it one segment longer and a little faster. The golden apple shows up briefly and is worth a lot of points; the ice apple slows time for a few seconds. Hit a wall or your own body and the game is over.
- 1Turn the snake with the arrow keys or by swiping.
- 2A red apple is worth 10 points and one segment. Eat apples quickly in a row to grow your multiplier.
- 3The golden apple disappears after a few seconds; catch it for 50 points.
- 4The ice apple slows time for 5 seconds and gives you room to breathe.
- 5In Classic mode walls are deadly. In Endless mode you leave one edge and come back on the other. In Obstacles mode there are stone blocks on the board.

About Snake
Snake plays out on a twenty-by-twenty grid with nothing but four directions, yet it demands sharper focus with every passing second. The snake starts at a relaxed pace, and each apple trims a little off its step time until it moves at roughly twice the opening speed. So as a run goes on, your body grows longer while your reaction window shrinks, and those two pressures together keep the tension high right to the end.
Scoring has its own rhythm too: eat apples in quick succession and your multiplier climbs, up to five times. The short-lived golden apple and the time-slowing ice apple constantly force you to rethink your route. The three modes feel genuinely different. In Classic the walls are deadly, in Endless you leave one edge and come back through the opposite one, and in Obstacles stone blocks multiply as you eat: new stones arrive after your eighth apple and the full layout is in place by the sixteenth.
Each mode keeps its own high score, so there are three personal bests to chase. It is a good fit for anyone who enjoys short sessions and wants to test hand-eye coordination.
Strategy and tips
- Once the body gets long, travel along the edges of the grid; keeping the centre clear leaves a short path to the next apple open.
- Never box yourself in: before turning, consider where your tail will be and whether an exit will still exist.
- The golden apple vanishes quickly, so if it is far away and the path is risky, securing the next red apple is often the smarter play.
- Try to grab an ice apple when the speed is already high or your body fills much of the grid; five slower seconds are enough to escape a tight spot.
- Keep the multiplier alive by heading straight for apples instead of looping around between them.
- In Endless mode use the wraparound as a shortcut, but check that your own body is not waiting on the far edge.
- You can tap direction keys in quick succession; the game queues them in order, which makes tight U-turns safe.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my high score saved?
- Yes. Your best score for each mode is stored separately in this browser and shown on the mode selection screen.
- Which mode is best for beginners?
- Endless is the most forgiving because the walls cannot kill you. Classic and Obstacles call for more care.
- How fast does the snake get?
- Every apple shortens the step time a little, until the snake reaches about twice its starting speed and stays there.
- Are all the stones there from the start in Obstacles mode?
- No. You begin with only a few; more blocks appear at the eighth and sixteenth apples.
