Word Hunt

Swipe across the letters to find hidden words and earn stars in 30 themed levels.

Puzzle · 1 player

How to play

Words from a theme are hidden in the letter grid: across, down, diagonal, even written backwards. Swipe your finger or mouse over the letters and each word you find is marked with a bright ribbon. Thirty themed levels from animals to outer space, growing grids, a daily puzzle that is the same for everyone and achievements to unlock are waiting for you.

  1. 1The list below shows the words to find. Press the first letter of a word in the grid and slide to its last letter.
  2. 2Words can run across, down or diagonally; in later levels they are also written backwards. Your selection snaps to a straight line.
  3. 3A correct word gets a coloured ribbon and is crossed off the list. Stuck? The light bulb Hint button shows the first letter of a word.
  4. 4Find every word: finish fast and without hints for three stars and the next level opens. Solve the daily puzzle every day to grow your streak.

Keyboard

Drag over the letters with the mouse. With the keyboard, move with the arrow keys, press space to start a selection, extend it with the arrows and press space again to finish; Backspace drops the selection, F gives a hint, Z opens achievements. Esc pauses.

Touch screen

Touch the first letter of a word and slide your finger to its last letter. You can also tap the first letter and then the last letter separately.

Controller

The D-pad or left stick moves from letter to letter; A starts a selection, and after you set the direction a second press of A completes the word. B cancels the selection, X gives a hint and Y opens the achievements list.

About Word Hunt

Word Hunt is a relaxed letter-grid puzzle that sharpens your eye and your focus. Every level is tied to a theme, and the thirty themes range from everyday subjects such as Animals, Fruit and School to broader ones like Space, Science and Feelings. Words come from the word list of the language you are playing in, so in English you are hunting for English words.

The thirty levels are split into five packs of six: Warm-up, Discovery, Explorer, Expert and Legend. In the first pack the grid is 8×8 and words run only left to right or top to bottom, with diagonals added a few levels in. The second pack moves to a 9×9 grid, the third grows to 10×10 and starts hiding words backwards. In the final two packs, on 11×11 and 12×12 grids, words can point in any of eight directions and you may hunt for up to twelve per level.

The daily puzzle, identical for every player, uses a 10×10 grid with nine words and all directions in play. Finishing quickly and without hints earns more stars and unlocks achievements. It works just as well for children building their vocabulary as for adults looking for a short mental break.

Strategy and tips

  • Spot the uncommon letters in your word list. Letters such as Q, Z or X are rare in the grid, so finding them first and checking their surroundings often gives the word away quickly.
  • Rather than scanning at random, sweep row by row and then column by column. A steady pattern stops you from looking at the same area twice.
  • Start with the longest words. They occupy more of the grid, and once found they rule out nearby letters, making the short words easier to pick out later.
  • From the Explorer pack onwards, words may be reversed. If one refuses to show up, look for its last letter and read backwards from there.
  • When you are stuck on a letter pair, say the word begins with “TH”, check all eight neighbours of every T in turn. If an H sits beside one, that pair tells you the direction.
  • A hint only reveals the first letter of a word. Keep it as a last resort if you are chasing the achievement for finishing a 10×10 or larger grid without hints.
  • Time affects your stars, so if one word stalls you, move on to the others. Every word you find removes letters from play, and the missing one often jumps out later.

Frequently asked questions

How many levels are there and how do they unlock?
There are 30 levels across five packs. Finishing a level opens the next one, and both the grid and the number of words grow from pack to pack.
In which directions can words hide?
Early levels use horizontal and vertical lines, then diagonals; from the third pack, reversed directions join in. In the last packs all eight directions are possible.
Is there a penalty for a wrong selection?
No. A wrong line is simply rejected and cleared without costing points. Your selection also snaps to a straight line, so a slightly wobbly drag is fine.
How does the daily streak work?
Solve the daily puzzle on consecutive days and your streak grows. Separate achievements reward three-day and seven-day streaks.
